Groveley is sponsoring a welding and fabrication course in Kenya – providing opportunity, not just charity.
Our funding supports one of many vocational courses run by Boo charity in a thriving centre for over 120 young people in the north west rural area of Kissi, bordering Lake Victoria.
Welding & Fabrication life skills training started in 2016 and is held over two years. There are 15 students currently enrolled on the course. Boo provides costs for a trainer, raw materials, metal, welding rods, safety equipment, angle lines, welders, grinders etc, plus learning materials including HS&E materials to promote best practice.
The course teaches students to manufacture fabricated structures such as window frames, security gates, security window bars and utensil items. It is certificated by the Kenyan National Skills Training Board allowing young people to graduate with a recognised skills certificate, giving them greater opportunity to find work with employers or eventually start their own business.
